Precast Panels Provide Solid Environmental Control, Attractive Exterior for Multipurpose Space
The Nebraska Furniture Mart, opening in Kansas City, Kansas in 2003, is a new 1 -acre superstore and warehouse facility. The 450,000-sq.-foot retail section will showcase a wide range of home products, including furniture, electronics, appliances and flooring. The 212,000-sq.-foot distribution space is a warehouse and customer pickup area. The multipurpose facility built by Kansas City based Turner Construction uses Fabcon precast concrete panels to achieve appearance and operating cost objectives.
"This project revolved around finding a building material that provides an attractive exterior and solid environmental controls," said Jeff Nadeau, sales engineer, Fabcon Inc. "The Furniture Mart requested something that holds an attraction for customers, but would also help meet the heating and cooling challenges typical with a large warehouse space. A steel-form reverse finish offset by medallions and horizontal bands creates an upscale exterior look for the retail superstore. And, because the insulated panels are highly energy efficient and provide a strong fire rating, the walls are an ideal warehouse solution."
