Press ReleasesFABCON PANELS HELP CRATE AND BARREL COMPLETE PROJECT AHEAD OF SCHEDULEFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- October 15, 2004 SAVAGE, Minn., Oct. 15, 2004 ? Fabcon, one of the nation's leading precast-concrete wall manufacturers, announced early completion of its first northeast expansion project for Crate and Barrel. The Crate and Barrel project involved installing 220,000 square feet of VersaCore? precast-concrete wall panels at two facilities in Jamesburg, N.J. The first included a warehouse, completed in November 2003, and the second, a combined outlet center and warehouse, completed in April 2004. "With the outlet center grand opening scheduled for June 4, we needed to select suppliers and building materials that would ensure we'd meet our deadlines," said Michael Preston, project executive for Jeffrey M. Brown Associates and the project's design/build construction manager. "Fabcon's precast panels were our best option because they are cast off-site, allowing us to avoid unexpected weather conditions that could have slowed down the construction process. In addition, they offered us the flexibility of cast-in window and door openings, further aiding speed of construction." Fabcon helped expedite Crate and Barrel's northeast expansion plans by allowing completion of the warehouse facility two months ahead of schedule and completion of the combined outlet center and warehouse facility three months ahead of schedule. "We're very proud to help a recognized retail leader like Crate and Barrel with its expansion efforts," said Mike Le Jeune, president, CEO, Fabcon. "Being able to help the company open its facilities well ahead of schedule is a testament to the versatility Fabcon's VersaCore panels provide for commercial construction." Both Crate and Barrel facilities feature 50-foot tall panels with a custom, checkerboard-style finish created by Fabcon using a form liner ? rubber negatives peeled off the poured panel, allowing the transfer of unique impressions onto concrete. A total of 750 eight-inch-thick insulated, precast concrete wall panels were used to create the exteriors of both facilities. VersaCore precast concrete panels offer the benefit of low shipping costs along with the ability to cast window and door openings during the precast process. VersaCore panels also help enhance design flexibility by offering a diverse, aesthetically pleasing range of finish options available in 22 aggregate designs and 24 different finishes for commercial construction projects.
